Double glazed glass replacement
Information
One of our recent glass window replacement project took us to Billericay a town and civil parish in the Borough of Basildon, Essex, England. It lies within the London Basin and constitutes a commuter town 25 miles east of Central London. Our misty window repair service has proven to be quite popular within this area!
Our client found us with a quick Google search in their local area, with the phrase “window replacement glass near me”.
We booked in a date to assess the misted up window panes. There were eight glass window panels in total that had failed with water and condensation between the panes. Seven of these double glazed panes were within golden oak uPVC frames and one of the panes was within an older style timber door that was over 30 years old.
The window panes had a rare 12mm flat silver lead design on them. This gives any building a very traditional look that is not seen often, as most window lead is 6mm and 9mm in thickness.
Within an hour of carrying out the survey, we managed to identify the type of glass needed and measured out all the correct square lead sizes. If the measurements are incorrect by the smallest of margins, the new glass window panes would never line up.
The glass specification for this job below:
- 4mm clear toughened safety glass on the external pane
- 20mm bronze spacer bar
- Argon gas
- 4mm Planitherm Total + Low-E glass by Saint Gobain on the internal pane, for extra thermal insulation
- 12mm flat silver lead
The bathroom had obscured privacy glass, which is a popular Pilkington Glass pattern called Minster. This is a great choice of glass and complements leaded window panes that have an older traditional look.
The double glazed window panes were sent to our trusted manufacturers to be made as a bespoke order, which was ready for delivery within 10 days. Misty Glaze arranged the installation date with our client and the operatives arrived in good time from the Misty Glaze HQ in Ongar, Essex.
After 3 hours of taking the old glass units out and swapping them with the brand new crystal clear double window panes. The job was done! The timber door unit took the most time to replace, due to the age and condition.
Timber glass replacements can be much more labour intensive than the more common uPVC glass replacements. Fortunately the Misty Glaze team is highly skilled with many years of experience.
Our client was very happy to see their old window frames restored. It’s always a pleasure for us to receive compliments on our workmanship and to work in the charming town of Billericay.
