Replacement Double Glazed Windows - Birmingham - Misty Glaze

How to Upgrade to Energy-Efficient Windows Without Replacing Frames

Our Birmingham glaziers replace only the glass panes within your existing frames to create energy-efficient windows. We can fit window glass into various frames, including uPVC, aluminium and wood. Replacing only the window panes is much quicker, meaning less disruption to your home while saving you money on installation and future energy bills.

Windows are rated for energy efficiency on a scale from A to G by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC), with A being the most efficient. Many homes in the UK lose up to 30% of their heat through older, poorly insulated windows, making window upgrades a smart investment for comfort and savings.

Benefits of Upgrading to A-Rated Windows

Cost-Effective Solution

Our energy saving replacement double glazed windows provide sustainability without the cost of full-frame replacements. Our service replaces only the glass panes within your existing frames, providing a cost-effective way to upgrade your windows. For Birmingham homes with windows rated below C, our A+ and A++ energy saving windows are an easy way to enhance efficiency.

Noise Protection

Living near busy roads, train stations or flight paths can be noisy, but our energy saving windows improve insulation and reduce outside noise. With our enhanced acoustic glazing options, we can replace your current panes, helping to create a quieter, more comfortable home environment while maintaining your home’s original look.

Minimise Condensation

Condensation build-up between panes can lead to damp, misted windows and, sometimes, even health issues. Avoid this by upgrading to A-rated windows to eliminate condensation and prevent moisture damage. Misty Glaze’s Birmingham replacement glass service addresses these problems, ensuring a quick and affordable fix for your home.

Energy Efficiency

Installing the latest energy saving windows improves the interior temperature – lowering heating costs. The low-emissivity coating on our A-rated glass reflects heat into your home, reducing heat loss and shrinking your energy bills and carbon footprint.

What Is Energy-Efficient Double Glazing?

Energy efficient double glazing refers to a double glazed unit (DGU) made to minimise heat loss and improve insulation in your home. Consisting of two or more panes of glass, these units regulate indoor temperatures and reduce energy consumption.

Here are the key components:

  1. The glass – This would consist of 4mm Low Iron on the external pane and Low-E (with the manufacturer, make or model of clients choice. Misty Glaze can also make recommendations) on the interior pane.
  2. Spacer bar – This is the frame that separates the 2 panels of glass. Creating an air tight cavity that helps to insulate the glass pane. You will find aluminium versions on the older style panels that are less insulated. A warm edge spacer bar is used on heat insulated double glazed units.
  3. Desiccant – This is a silicon material used within the spacer bar that will dry the moisture trapped within the cavity. Much like the little packets that you see in trainer boxes and clothing etc.
  4. The primary seal – The barrier to protect moisture and air from attacking the double glazed unit.
  5. Gas within the cavity – This usually consists of Argon gas, but can be other types of gas as requested, such as Krypton and Xenon.
  6. The cavity – This is the void formed between the 2 panes.
  7. The secondary seal – This is the main hot-melt structure adhesive sealant around the edge of the unit that seals the 2 pieces of glass together.

Please note: Please note: Energy efficient windows must be C-rated to meet the Energy Saving Recommendation certification. An A++ window rating is for windows with the highest efficiency levels.
